Partner in Ministry
I agree with what Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:18. It's my desire to preach the gospel "free of charge." And yet, he also said just a few verses earlier that "the Lord has commanded that those who preach the gospel should receive their living from the gospel." That's weird, right?
I've made a living at preaching the gospel before, but in all honesty, the salary was probably more for running the church. Now that I've left the conventional church ministry model, like Paul said, I "have to work for a living." I still have great joy and enthusiasm for preaching and teaching, but less time for doing it, so I do what I can, but less than I want.
Some have asked about helping to free me up for more teaching. Here's my decision:
Humbled and grateful,
I've made a living at preaching the gospel before, but in all honesty, the salary was probably more for running the church.
- It's my joy to preach and teach "free of charge" while also doing what's necessary to put food on the table.
- If it's your joy to help me spend more of my time and energy preaching and teaching, I will receive any amount as encouragement to do so. Not required. Not even asked for. But appreciated.
Humbled and grateful,
